This study explored how media students at Egyptian universities utilize artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance their academic task performance. Using a quantitative survey method, data was collected through an online questionnaire from a sample of 400 students from both public and private universities, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The findings revealed that students heavily rely on AI tools to improve their academic performance, with ChatGPT being the most commonly used tool, surpassing other tools such as Gemini and Copilot. Noticeable differences in the level of usage were observed between public and private universities. The study also highlighted that students expect significant improvements in their academic performance through these tools, despite facing challenges such as technical difficulties and the need for training. Furthermore, the results showed a positive correlation between the extent of AI tool usage and students’ assessment of their effectiveness in improving academic performance. However, while students expressed satisfaction with the benefits of these tools, they still face challenges that need to be addressed to ensure maximum benefit. The study recommends providing comprehensive technical support and training to enhance students' use of AI tools and maximize their academic benefits. This study underscores the importance of understanding the impact of AI tools on students' academic performance and offers practical recommendations that can help improve teaching and learning strategies in this evolving digital context.
