Investigative coverage of the 2024 US presidential elections at a sample of Egyptian and American websites

Abstract

The current study sought to identify the nature of the investigative coverage of the US presidential elections in 2024 in a sample of Egyptian and American newspaper websites, which were represented by the Egyptian portal website Bawaba news, and the American ProPublica website, through the theory of media logic, and the researcher used the content analysis tool, and the time sample was represented in eight months from March to November 2024, and the study concluded that:  the number of investigative forms in the two sites decreased, and the investigative coverage differed to some extent between the Egyptian and American sites in several aspects including:  The direction of treatment, where the Egyptian site was presented in a balanced direction, while the American site offers an exhibition direction, and the objectives of investigative coverage, where the main goal of the Egyptian site was to influence public opinion, while the American site aimed to reveal corruption, and the method of presentation, especially in the images accompanying the text, where the Egyptian site relied on the single pivotal image, while the American site relied on serial and objective images, but they were similar in:  The most important topics and investigative sources on which they relied, the active personalities and the values involved, and the public solicitations
