Visual frames of socio-cultural activation videos on the UNHCR YouTube channel: a semiotic study

Abstract

The problem of the study is summarized in identifying the connotations of image framing in presenting meanings for the fields of socio-cultural activation for refugees, by revealing the signs and connotations contained in the shots, and by relying on the semiotic analysis method to identify the various meanings and connotations associated with the visual content of electronic news videos, the study sample on the YouTube channel of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The study concluded the importance of semiotic analysis in monitoring and analyzing the connotations of the visual frames of electronic news videos and identifying the connotations of the symbols and colors contained in these images and analyzing the meanings behind their use. The results also confirmed that refugees enjoy a high degree of confidence as a result of socio-cultural practices, which was confirmed by the connotations of the visual content
