Critical Discourse Analysis of Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa in News Headlines on Israeli Websites “A Case Study of Website Israel 24”

Abstract

The current study aimed to monitor, analyze and interpret the ways in which Israel 24 employed lexical and stylistic features in its news headlines in its speech about the Al-Aqsa flood process and its repercussions, and how those headlines reflect the ideologies of communicators through the use of language and how to represent the duality of "we" and "them" ideologically, relying on the methodology of the media survey and case study, where the study took the position of Israel 24 as a deliberate sample of the study with a focus on news headlines and news reports covering the Palestinian-Israeli conflict during the period of The study (from October 7 to November 7, 2023), and included (203) press titles, based on the critical discourse analysis tool represented in Van Dijk's ideological box and Ferclough's approach, and the results of the study found that the most important ideologies on which the discourse producer relied on the Israel 24 website in his speech on the Al-Aqsa flood operation and its repercussions were represented in two main ideologies, namely (demonizing the Palestinian resistance and inciting public opinion to condemn it - preparing internal and external public opinion to support Israel), The results also indicated that the producer of the discourse on the Israel 24 website relied on a wide range of rhetorical strategies to support his ideologies and consolidate them in the reader's mind, perhaps the most important of which are evidence, proof, humanity, the numbers game, metaphor, exaggeration, generalization, consensus, and presupposition.
