The rhetorical structure of the headlines of the Israeli and Arab newspapers regarding the events of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood

Abstract

this study aims to analyze the rhetorical structures of press headlines to reveal their representation of ideologies and visions through an analytical study of a sample of Israeli and Arab newspapers while dealing with the events of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. Yediot Aharonot, Haaretz, and Maariv) and the Arab newspapers represented in (The Syrian Revolution, Jordan's Tomorrow and Al-Ahram Egyptian) using the critical discourse analysis tool to analyze vocabulary, sentences, and rhetorical images and identify the most prominent mechanisms and strategies to confirm these visions and ideologies and monitor the points of agreement and differences between the use of rhetorical structures of ideologies in both From Arab and Israeli newspapers.
The results of the qualitative analysis revealed the explicit and implicit manipulation of vocabulary, words, positive and negative suggestions, sentences, and rhetorical images to confirm the ideologies of the countries during their handling of the events. The mechanisms were also employed based on their ideologies, so the Israeli newspapers tended to follow the ideology of acquittal and projection, while the Arab newspapers relied on the ideology of solidarity and condemnation of the actions of the State of Israel.
