Abstract

The study aimed to find out how Egyptian fans of football matches resist the exclusive broadcasting rights. It relied on the "opportunity cost" model, which is concerned with understanding the decision-making process on the part of the consumer in the event of limited available resources, and it refers to the cost of a particular choice, that is, what a person can gain when making one choice at the expense of another.
The study is descriptive, and it depended on the survey methodology and employed the questionnaire in its electronic form by applying it to a purposive sample of 563 respondents, diverse in terms of their demographic characteristics, all of whom were not subscribers to the exclusive rights-holding network channels beIN Sports or any of the paid viewing applications.
The results reveal a range of unresearched options in the world of sports watching, which provide its users with an attractive opportunity at a cost that is limited to the cost of subscribing to beIN Sports channels. However, the negative attitudes of the respondents towards exclusive rights also became clear due to what they saw as a blatant violation on the public's right to watch, the absence of beneficial competition for the viewer, and the need to accept subscriptions at high prices.
