Factors influencing the selection and processing of essayists for popular content (Trend) in Egyptian electronic newspapers- Field study

Abstract

         Trending content (Trend) has become one of the most important media contents followed by the public, therefore various media outlets - including electronic newspapers - attempt to cover and monitor it, discuss it, and follow its developments. Among the trend monitoring tools, it is addressed in the articles of writers as a comment, analysis, or even criticism and attack. Thus, the study aimed to uncover and monitor the factors influencing the selection and treatment of trending content (trend) by article writers in Egyptian electronic newspapers through a field study on a sample of 104 article writers consisting of 41 writers from Al-Ahram, 32 writers from Youm7, and 31 writers from Al-Wafd. The study belongs to the descriptive studies, relying on the survey methodology, and it relied on the survey form in collecting its data during the period from 1/3/2023 to 1/4/2023.
        The study results showed that article writers are keen on following the trend, and browsing social media sites came at the forefront of the means through which article writers follow the trend. The study also revealed that following the trend is generally a motivating factor for writing about it, the study revealed that the personal traits of the writer came first among the factors influencing the selection of a particular trend and writing about it, while internal factors of the institution came in second place, and external factors of the institution came in third.
