Abstract

The researcher developed a tool for managing variables using a mapping approach. The researcher hypothesized that this tool would address the challenges faced by researchers in the media field in formulating titles, identifying questions and hypotheses, in addition to building a measurement tool in quantitative research and identifying the interrelationships between variables and methods of measuring them at the statistical level.
The researcher conducted three experiments on six groups in the master's and doctoral programs over a period of three separate years to measure the impact of the variables of specialization, gender, or academic stage on the performance of the experiment.
The experiment was conducted using the experimental and control groups method, where the use of variable maps was presented and students in the experimental group were trained on it, then the ability to formulate the research plan and measurement tools was measured in terms of accuracy and efficiency, while the students in the control group were trained on the methods of preparing research plans and measurement tools mentioned in the literature of research methods without referring to the idea of variable maps.
The results of the three experiments showed the clear success of applying the tool, as the experimental groups were able to identify the research title, research problems, independent, dependent and mediating variables, formulate questions and hypotheses, build measurement tools, and develop a plan for statistical analysis according to the nature of the studied variables (nominal, ordinal, weighted) in a way that far exceeds the control groups by a very large margin. The experiment did not show any differences according to the academic stage, specialization, or gender in using and employing the tool.
