The reality of the information architecture on the Middle East News Agency website- Evaluation study

Abstract

The journey of journalism is currently witnessing many challenges, as most readers have turned to news sites on the Internet, through which much news content is accessed. Therefore, it has become important for the site to be easy to use for the public.
Hence the a need to study the architecture of information on news sites, and to learn about navigation systems and methods of displaying and organizing information. This study prepared a checklist by analyzing previous literature to determine are best practices in information architecture for websites, and this list was used to analyze the Middle East News Agency website to determine the good aspects of its information architecture and the aspects that need improvement. The study also relied on the case study approach to identify the extent of the application of information engineering in the information construction of the study sample site.
The study found that the site in the study sample conforms in many aspects to information structure standards, such as the presence of effective navigation systems on the site, the use of clear naming terms, and the existence of a logical plan for classifying and structuring information. There were also some aspects that needed improvement such as feedback, research tools, and accessibility methods to be more user-friendly.
