Abstract

The research, titled "Academic Elite's Perspectives on the Phenomenon of Digital Mobs in Social Media Networks," aims to contribute to studying the current situation as perceived by a sample of academic elites. It analyzes how the general public interacts with digital messages in the virtual world through social media networks, including their role in spreading these messages without being aware of the ideological agendas they carry. This lack of critical evaluation often leads to sharing messages without verifying their credibility or knowing their sources. Such behavior contributes to disseminating rumors that may compromise national security, religious values, social principles, etc.
The research seeks to validate the researcher’s hypotheses, supporting the establishment of one of the first Arab-Islamic theories in digital security media, sociology, and modern social media studies. Among the significant findings is that members of society contribute to spreading rumors unknowingly, which can result in significant risks to national security and social harmony.
This was reflected in a high response rate, with 124 individuals (83.2%) strongly agreeing that such risks exist. Conversely, the statement "community members are ideologically aware of the intellectual backgrounds of digital messages before sharing them via social media" received a strong disagreement rate from 91 individuals (61.1%). Based on these findings, the study recommends emphasizing the importance of raising community awareness regarding the responsible handling of digital messages. It advocates for stopping the spread of questionable content, especially when it contradicts societal values or threatens national security.
