News verification strategies used by the communicator in the Egyptian newspapers via Facebook

Abstract

The current study aimed to reveal the nature of the news verification strategies used by the communicator with the Egyptian newspapers on their different ownership systems (governmental, private and partisan) to identify the most important of those strategies used, and the extent of their diversity between traditional and digital ones, as well as shed light on the rates of use of communicators news content through their accounts on the Facebook platform, as well as identifying the nature of the news content that is most difficult in the verification process, as well as revealing the levels of activation of the verification strategies used. Deliberate contacts of the Egyptian newspapers with different ownership regimes (Al-Ahram, Al-Shorouk, Al-Ahali), numbering 151 journalists working in these press institutions. The study in its most important results include the following:
1-The most important social networking sites on which the study sample had personal accounts in (Facebook), (Twitter), (Instagram), with percentages of (72.2%), (67.5%), (59.6%), respectively.
2-The study sample reported that one of the most important reasons for activating the personal account on Facebook was (communicating with family, friends and colleagues, identifying current events, identifying followers’ comments on current events, obtaining news headlines, publishing news belonging to my press organization).
3- The results of the study revealed that the most important verification strategies followed by the study sample came in (technological strategies for using news verification programs) by (40.4%), followed by (technological strategies for using news verification programs and strategies for direct communication with the source to verify news content together) by (39.7%), and finally (strategies of direct contact with the source to verify news content.), at a rate of (19.9%.(
4-The most important results of the study came to designing a theoretical model that clarifies the nature and foundations of the news verification process through the Facebook website for the communicators.
