Attitudes of young people towards cyberbullying through social media in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The study of young people’s attitudes towards the impact of cyberbullying through social networking sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aims to identify the social networks that transmit the most electronic bullying. The ages of the participants ranged from 18-65 years, males and females, and the descriptive approach was used to identify the trends of the study sample. The sample was chosen deliberately, numbering 401 participants. The study talked about the definition of cyber-bullying, its types, causes, and the effects of cyber-bullying on individuals. The study reached several results, namely that the use of social media platforms increases the transmission of electronic bullying among individuals due to the increase in the rate of sitting on it for long periods, and that the most used social networking site in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is Snapchat, followed by Twitter. The participants reported that there are positive aspects through the exposure of victims to cyber-bullying, and the presence of negative effects through exposure to cyber-bullying, and that there are reasons for cyber-bullying. The most important results were presented to curb and prevent cyberbullying in several aspects, including the judicial aspect, the social aspect, the religious aspect, the media aspect and the educational aspect, with a type for each aspect. Several recommendations were mentioned according to previous studies and the results of the current study.
