Abstract

Study focuses on analytical articles’ writer’s employment of “we” and “others” pronouns to express apparent and latent objective content and discourse of articles. In addition, study deals with discourse’s political connotations in the contexts of the writer’s subjective orientations, article’s structural function, political, social, and linguistic context, as well as revealing the significance of the pronouns and the “other” in the opposite side which may represent the role of “enemy” in writer’s mentality, in the written text, and in the shreds of evidence presented through the main article units.

The analysis was applied to four writers in four newspapers, namely (Al-Ahram), (Akhbar Al-Youm), (Al-Shorouk) and (Al-Masry Al-Youm) in November 2021
with a total of 16 articles. Methods used are surveys, qualitative and quantitative content analysis when categories of analysis are countable

The study was inspired by the scientific data of “Aggressive Cues theory”, “Construction of meaning theory”, “Chaos theory” and “Hostile media effects”.
The study reached several results: Diversity and intensity of the presence of different binaries across pronouns - The multiplicity and clarity of the political connotations of the pronouns and their surrounding contexts - Correlation of the level of hostile attitude to “other” and positive attitude to oneself, to “we” - The prominent influence of political variables in classifying the other as the enemy - Close relationship between the writer's attitude and political orientations in employing the article to devote specific beliefs concerning “others”- The absence of solutions in articles and the tendency to take sides against "others" and with “we".
