The effectiveness of employing 360-degree photography applications in developing the skills of creating digital news content among students of mass media faculties (Quasi-experimental study)

Abstract

The modern digital media industry requires many skills, including photography, editing, and managing modern technologies, as the digital news content industry has become one of the most important areas of modern media, where digital content is designed and produced in many and varied ways, including 360-degree immersive imaging technology, which is an innovative and modern way to improve the user experience in interacting with digital news content, many applications on smartphones use 360-degree technology to create Arab and international digital news content, and some news organizations use 360-degree technology to create immersive and attractive digital news content, as this technology allows viewers to experience news more interactively, enabling them to explore the scene from multiple angles and perspectives.
This research comes in the context of developing the skills of media students in the digital news content industry and falls within the framework of determining the effectiveness of employing 360-degree photography applications such as: "GoPro," "Street View," and "Panorama 360" in developing the skills of creating digital news content among media students.
The research aims to study the effectiveness of using 360-degree photography applications in developing the skills of creating digital news content among students of media faculties, such as: writing digital news, producing news images and videos, and managing digital content.
The importance of the study is evident from the lack of Arab media studies that are concerned with the skills of creating digital news content using 360 photography applications, as well as contributing to enriching the scientific literature in this field by identifying appropriate mechanisms and methods to train students to use these applications and improve their digital skills.
This study belongs to the pattern of quasi-experimental studies on a sample of media students, and the study relied on the bilateral experimental design (pre-post) which is based on the selection of a random sample (probability) from the original community consisting of two groups: the first experimental, and the second control, and the two groups of pre-application of the scale were exposed to verify the equivalence of the two research groups in advance about experiences associated with the skills of creating digital news content, followed by exposing the experimental group to 360-degree imaging technology, with exposure  The experimental and control groups of the scale dimensionally to study the effectiveness of employing 360-degree imaging technology in developing digital news content creation skills among media students.
The current study sample consisted of (60) male and female students of the Faculty of Mass Communication, and the TAM model for accepting technology is the most appropriate for this study, as it depends on the idea of users adopting new technology based on the extent of their acceptance and use of it.
The researcher designed the list of digital news content creation skills, which includes: digital literacy skills, employing digital tools in the news content industry, producing and editing digital news content, and publishing and evaluating digital news content, taking into account the three main skills in preparing a test to measure the skills of creating digital news content among male and female students of the Faculty of Mass Communication.
The results of the study showed that the use of 360-degree photography applications contributes to the development of digital news content creation skills among students, and a noticeable improvement was observed in the skills of photography, editing and interaction with modern technologies among the members of the experimental group, and the results indicated that there is a positive average relationship between students' use of digital media technologies when producing news content and the rate of reliance on digital media technologies, and the study proved statistically significant differences in favor of females in their permanent use, in addition to the improvement in  Students of the experimental group in the skills of creating digital news content - in general - and in each skill separately.
