Abstract

The international media raced to cover the consequences of the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani by the United States at Baghdad International Airport in 2020 with an air strike, which some saw as a heroic act whose implementation was delayed, while others saw it as an ominous foolishness, and it may be the first spark in a new world war. And when some media outlets did not have correspondents in Iran and Iraq; It relied on other media outlets and international news agencies. And every media outlet is following many other media outlets in the world to follow up on the event, and thus the agenda of topics related to this issue has moved between the international media in what is known in the media as the Intermedia agenda setting, which looks at the transfer of the most important issues between the media. instead of the audience, and it is one of the most important media theories that has not been tested internationally and in the Arab world together. Therefore, this research relied on a sample of international and Arab newspapers that dealt with the issue of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, represented by international newspapers (The Guardian - The New York Times - The Sun Today - and the Russian ones), and Arab newspapers represented by (Tehran - Al-Zawra - Saudi Gazette - and Al-Ahram), so it aimed The study is to explore the transmission of the interstitial agenda of the press image between the sites of newspapers, the study sample. Media is known as media diversity.
The researchers used the content analysis tool for the press image and extracted the relationships that illustrate the transmission of the inter-agency agenda between newspapers. The most important results of the study indicated that there is an inter-agenda between the international and Arab media, in addition to the presence of an influence relationship from Tehran on the New York Times and many international newspapers, unusually. This is due to the fact that Tehran is the main player in the event and the power of the event stems from it, as well as the influence of Al-Ahram, which appeared clearly as a result of the strength and position of Al-Ahram as a newspaper among the newspapers in the Arab countries. The results of media diversity There is a diversity in the press image that differs from one newspaper to another in terms of angles of photography, sources and ownership of the newspaper.
And it became clear that there was a direct, statistically significant correlation between the competitive effect of the agenda of the study sample newspapers (interstitial agenda) and the increase in diversity in the sources of the press image associated with news coverage of the case of the killing of Qassem Soleimani. This was in all newspapers of the study sample, with the exception of (Al-Zawraa and Saudi Gazette).
