The role of mass media in Awareness raising to Egyptian public about Oral cancer .. Empirical study

Abstract

This research aims to identify the levels of awareness of the Egyptian public about Oral cancer in light of the role played by the various Egyptian media in raising awareness of this disease, to describe and analyze the relationship between public awareness of Oral cancer and the media's interest and objectives of raising awareness of it and the factors affecting it, based on the vision of the Cognitive Mediation Model (CMM), in a descriptive research using the field survey method and the questionnaire tool for a non-probability sample of the Egyptian public numbering (400) items, and a codified interview for (114) dentists who practice the profession in Egypt, and the study reached a set of results, including; the media is not interested in Awareness raising to Egyptian public about Oral cancer, as (83.5%) of the sample steted that they were not exposed to awareness contents about Oral cancer in various media, and that their most important sources of obtaining information about the disease are the Internet and social networks, wherse the Egyptian public's awareness of Oral cancer was weak to non-existent by (72.2%), on the other hand, it was found that (54.4%) of the dentists in the study sample do not examine their patients for the early detection of oral cancer, and (76.7%) of those who conduct a comprehensive medical examination of their patients do it randomly and not scientifically, and the reason is due to (76.9%) of dentists in not conducting a comprehensive medical examination of their patients because they do not know the proper scientific method of examination, and the four scientific hypotheses of the research have been accepted.
