The impact of the violence resulting from the post of October 7, 2023 war on the safety of Palestinian journalists and media workers in Gaza strip.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the emotional and psychological wounds experienced by journalists in the Gaza Strip due to their media war coverage. And to identify the impact of these injuries on their professional coverage
. The research adopted a quantitative approach of two methods first: (a questionnaire form) distributed to 55 journalists from the Gaza Strip working for online and TV and radio channels and free-lance journalists second in-depth interviews with15 Journalists from the Gaza Strip who suffered psychological trauma as a result of the killing of their families, forcing them to migrate to the north, bombing their homes, and killing their colleagues before their eyes.
Key findings of the research:
- The research indicated that all of the respondents were exposed to psychological violence as a result of their coverage of the war for the killing of civilians, bombing of shelters, the targeting of their families, the killing of fellow journalists, the cutting of infrastructure, and the targeting of hospitals.
The study sample reported, according to the phrase “the psychological symptoms that you felt after being exposed to psychological pressure,” that the most important psychological symptoms are, in order, (sadness), (lack of sleep), (fear, anger), (lack of concentration), (depression)، with percentages of (69.10%), (65.50%), (58.20%), (49.10%), (43.60%).
