Abstract

This study was launched with a general goal of revealing the role of digital media education in strengthening the level of awareness of educational media students about the dangers of deepfake applications, and how to deal with these risks, whether from a theoretical or practical standpoint. In order to achieve that goal, the current study relied on the theory "Defend." Protection", and each of the models: (cognitive - immunization - interactive), The study also employed the descriptive “field” approach by relying on the “Questionnaire Sheet,” which included two scales, “Digital Media Literacy Skills - Awareness of the Risks of These Applications,” and was applied to a random sample of (400) respondents from students of educational media departments in Egyptian universities. It concluded The study led to several results, the most important of which are:
- There is strong homogeneity in the responses of the study sample regarding their agreement to a “high” degree with all suggestions to protect awareness from the dangers of deepfake applications in light of digital media literacy skills, It has also been proven that there is a direct, statistically significant correlation between digital media literacy skills and the level of fortifying awareness of the dangers of deepfake applications. There is also a direct, statistically significant correlation between the intensity of the use of deepfake applications and the level of false confidence among the respondents.
- The results revealed that there was no statistically significant difference between students’ responses on a scale of awareness of the dangers of deepfake applications according to the demographic variables of the study.
