هدفت الدراسة إلى معرفة الطرق التي يلجأ إليها المصريون من هواة متابعة مباريات کرة القدم لمقاومة مفهوم حقوق البث الحصري، واعتمدت على نموذج «تکلفة الفرصة البديلة Opportunity Cost» الذي يعنى بفهم عملية صناعة القرار من جانب المُستهلِک في حالة محدودية الموارد المُتاحة، وهو يشير إلى تکلفة اختيار معين، أي ما يمکن أن يکتسبه الإنسان عند اتخاذ خيار ما على حساب آخر.
تُصنَّف الدراسة ضم الدراسات الوصفية، وقد استخدمت منهج المسح بالعينة، ووظَّفت أداة الاستبانة بصورته الإلکترونية؛ بالتطبيق على عينة عمدية قوامها 563 مبحوثًا متنوعين من حيث خصائصهم الديموغرافية، وجميعهم من غير المشترکين في قنوات الشبکة حائزة الحقوق الحصرية beIN Sport أو أي من تطبيقات المشاهدة المدفوعة.
کشفت النتائج عن مجموعة من الخيارات غير المطروقة بحثيًا في عالم المشاهدة الرياضية، وهي تُوفِّر لمستخدميها فرصة جذابة بتکلفة محدودة قياسًا إلى تکلفة الاشتراک في قنوات beIN Sports، کما اتضحت سلبية اتجاهات المبحوثين نحو الحقوق الحصرية لما رأوا فيها من اعتداء صارخ على حق الجمهور في المشاهدة، وغياب التنافسية المفيدة للمشاهد، والاضطرار لقبول الاشتراک بأسعار مرتفعة.
