TV Medical Programs Treatment of Corona Virus (Covid-19): An Analytical Study of Egyptian Sattlite Channels

Abstract

The aim of the study concluded in “analyzing how medical programs in Egyptian satellite
channels tackled the Corona crisis,” within the framework of the “media frame theory”.The
study relied on the survey method. A set of questions were developed to achieve the objectives of the research. The analytical study was conducted on a sample of 59 episodes of
medical programs, including 35 episodes of the (White Army) program, which is shown on
the first Egyptian satellite channel, and 24 episodes of the (Elnas Elhelwa) program, which is
shown on the Al-kahra wa Al-Nas2 Channel.
A content analysis sheet was prepared, which includes a group of categories that achieve
the goal of the study, and the researcher reached a set of results, as follow:
1-“Directions and Instructions” came first in terms of the most prominent topics related to
the “Corona virus crisis” that were addressed by the two study channels, followed by “precautionary measures”, then “a presentation of the causes and consequences of the crisis”,
followed by “support for the medical staff”.
2- The video came in the first place in terms of adopting the two channels programs - as a
means of attraction in dealing with the topics related to the “Corona crisis”.
3- The crisis was Focued by highlighting many aspects, foremost of which are: “images that
carry risks” as well as “precautionary measures,” in addition to highlight the “numbers of
deaths”, “bad illnesses” and the “most affected groups”.
