A future vision to activate the role of the educational media specialist in applying media education to middle school students A field study on practitioners and academics

Abstract

The current study aimed at identifying the role of the educational media specialist in disseminating the concepts of media education among students in schools, highlighting the obstacles to the performance of the educational media specialist, which is useful in strengthening the strengths and weaknesses, and determining the experts ’opinion on the concept of media education, its objectives, skills, activities and the extent of its application in Egypt and the levels that The concept of media education should be applied through it, by presenting a set of visions and future perceptions through recommendations and proposals that contribute to activating the role of the educational media specialist in spreading the concept of media education among students.
The research relied on the descriptive and analytical approach to identify the future vision of practitioners and academics in the field of educational media to activate the role of the educational media specialist in applying the concept of media education.
The study population was represented by practitioners from educational media specialists, educational media directors in governmental and private preparatory schools, and academics. A sample of 150 individuals was drawn.
The most important results:
- The percentage of those who assert that one of the most important objectives of media education from the point of view of the sample members is to protect young people from the negative effects of the media and their various contents by 83%. In understanding, media education by some of the school administrators, and the budget allocated to media education activities within the school is 79.3%.
- There are statistically significant differences between academics and practitioners in the degrees of their appreciation of the reality of the educational media specialist’s tasks, as the value of (2,915) came at a significance level of 0.001 in favor of practitioners, thus proving the validity of the first hypothesis.
