A proposed conceptualization of a training program to disseminate digital and media literacy among university youth in Upper Egypt A quasi-experimental longitudinal study

Abstract

The study aimed to develop a proposed vision for the dissemination of digital and media literacy (DML) among the Upper Egypt youth, through two levels, the first level; a proposed training program in DML to be disseminated among the undergraduate and postgraduate students within mass media colleges and faculties located in Upper Egypt, and the second level; A proposed conception of how to disseminate DML outside the universities, as the trained students on the  proposed program will transfer what they have learned to the citizens of the villages and governorates of Upper Egypt. Through a quasi-experimental longitudinal study on a sample of students of faculty of Mass Media, Beni-Suef University, by using the tools of observation by participation and the questionnaire, and concerning previous studies and the opinions of experts and academics in media literacy, the results of the study came out with features and foundations for a training program for the dissemination of DML, which is intended to promote awareness of media influence and create an active stance towards both consuming and creating media among audiences, also users will gain the skills of dealing with digital media platforms, by using various digital and technological tools via portable media and computers.
