Abstract

The image of women and their issues in Kuwaiti drama between traditional and modern styles
The problem of the study is defined in the main question: What is the image of women and their issues in Kuwaiti drama between traditional and modern styles?
The study aims to identify the image of women, their roles and issues as presented in the Kuwaiti drama. The study stems from feminist theory as a theoretical guide for the study, as it focused on women's issues and their economic, social and political rights.
This study belongs to the type of descriptive analytical studies. I used content analysis to analyze the image of women in the two series of the study (The Family - Afek Al-Khater).
The results of the study were as follows; The negative image of women topped the dramatic scene, as the study confirmed that 61% of female characters bear negative features such as materialistic thinking, magic and sorcery, using vulgar words, showing body charms, and other deception and plotting. While 39% hold positive values and behaviours. This is because the makers of the two series helped distort the image of women. The two series dealt with women's issues in Kuwaiti society in an unjust manner, as the woman was shown in the dress of a weak woman submissive to the authority of the man in most scenes, where he was miserly towards her, and married her as well.
