The Use of Electronic Media in Following Refugee Children's Issues

Abstract

This study aims to explore the Egyptian audience's use of electronic media in following issues related to refugee children, focusing on the motivations and effects of such use. The study adopts the Uses and Gratifications Model, which assumes that audiences actively engage with media to fulfill cognitive, emotional, and social needs.
A survey methodology was employed, using a questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 400 individuals of diverse age groups and economic backgrounds. The findings revealed that 79% of participants rely on electronic media, particularly social media platforms, to follow issues concerning refugee children. The primary motivations for usage included the need for accurate information about the conditions of refugees and the desire to interact with humanitarian issues through awareness campaigns and donations.
The study identified three main effects of electronic media use:

Cognitive Effects: Enhancing the audience's knowledge of refugee issues.
Emotional Effects: Strengthening empathy towards refugee children.
Social Effects: Increasing community interaction and digital support through social networks.

The study recommends enhancing the role of electronic media in raising awareness about refugee issues and developing content that highlights the challenges faced by refugee children. It also emphasizes the importance of engaging the audience in humanitarian and social efforts to support this vulnerable group.
