Egyptian Satellite TV Programs and Their Role in Raising Public Awareness of Global Political Issues

The world today is witnessing numerous issues that preoccupy political thinkers, media professionals, and others interested in contemporary international affairs. This study also aims to scientifically present and analyze the most significant global issues impacting nations and their societies, while adopting a simplified approach to explaining the causes and factors behind their emergence and persistence. Although many other issues are equally important, this research focuses on those deemed highly significant and sensitive for countries and societies in the current era.
Today’s world is characterized by rapid developments and the globalization of phenomena, alongside the emergence of new hotspots of ideological conflict and competition over political, economic, and military interests. Furthermore, the digital revolution and the remarkable spread of information and communication technologies have led to major transformations across various sectors.
This research explores the role of Egyptian satellite TV programs in raising public awareness of global political issues through both content analysis of selected programs and a field study involving a sample of viewers from various governorates. The study focuses on how these programs contribute to shaping viewers’ awareness, their level of interest, and engagement with political topics, and analyzes the relationship between exposure to these programs and cognitive, emotional, and behavioral impacts. It also examines variations in political awareness based on demographic factors such as age, gender, and education level, confirming statistically significant correlations between viewership frequency and political awareness.
The findings indicate that the majority of the audience heavily relies on Egyptian satellite programs to follow political developments. Issues such as the Palestinian cause and the Russia-Ukraine war are among the most followed. The study also highlights the popularity and influence of certain talk shows like “Kalam Bel Masry” in effectively engaging the public.
