Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the extent of attention given by social media pages to address cybercrime issues, identify the most prominent journalistic techniques used, categorize types of cybercrimes, and uncover the mechanisms employed to combat cybercrimes. It also sought to highlight the key functions of the frameworks used and identify the primary news frames in their handling. This was achieved through an analytical study of two pages on the social media platform (the Egyptian Ministry of Interior and Qawim), with a total of 396 posts analyzed for each, within the framework of framing theory.
The study found that the Egyptian Ministry of Interior's page led in covering cybercrime issues, accounting for 66.4% of its posts, reflecting its prominent role as an official entity in raising awareness about these issues. The "news" category dominated with 83% of the content, with the Egyptian Ministry of Interior's page focusing on it at a rate of 92%, compared to 66% for the Qawim page. The "neutral" tone was predominant, constituting 43.22% of the posts. Additionally, the crime of "engaging in illicit activities" ranked first among the most prevalent types of cybercrimes on social media platforms, with a rate of 20.48%. The mechanism of "enacting laws and imposing penalties" led as the primary approach to combating cybercrimes, with a rate of 11.67%.
Furthermore, the "responsibility" frame ranked first, constituting 16.9%, while the function of "presenting and describing the event" led among the functions, with a rate of 35.99%. The study emphasized the importance of reporting cybercrimes without fear or hesitation, the necessity of providing easy and confidential reporting mechanisms, and the need to focus on raising public awareness about cybercrime methods and prevention strategies. It also highlighted the importance of using diverse and engaging content and fostering collaboration between governmental institutions and community initiatives.
